It’s been a busy start to January for our sports department. Our Under 16 indoor hockey team played some excellent hockey last week to place a well-deserved first in the county indoor hockey tournament, taking the title of county champions.
Furthermore, our 1st Year football teams have started their journey in style, competing in three fixtures and scoring 14 goals. They also won their national cup fixture and now progress to the semi-finals – great effort!
The success continued this weekend with a busy few days of sport. Our Under 15 cricket team progressed to their county finals and we were delighted to cheer on 18 cross-country runners at the very wet and windy Cornwall Schools Cross Country Championships in Newquay. The runners put on an excellent performance, with our intermediate girls (Jessica, Sophie and Daisy) achieving 1st place in the team event and the 1st Year boys (Olly, Rocco, William R and William S) placing 2nd overall. A special mention to Gen P (2nd Year) who scooped Mr Sanderson’s race of the day for her superb effort!
Last but by no means least, we were very excited to welcome James Elkin to the Sir Ben Ainslie Sports Centre on Sunday for a badminton masterclass. James is a UKCC Level 3 badminton coach and assessor working for Badminton England. It was a pleasure to see so many pupils representing the School.
Well done to all the pupils who played and took part in these events, and thank you to the staff for supporting them… it’s certainly shaping up to be a great term.
