Prep Sports Round Up

It has been another busy few weeks for Sport at Truro School Prep. Last week, the Year 5 and 6 football A team travelled to Clifton College for the IFSA Under 11’s South West Tournament. They played some beautiful football and managed to finish top of their group, gaining 10 points with 3 wins and a draw. We then advanced to the semi-finals where we faced a very strong Millfield team. In a very tight game, Millfield managed to score 2 goals and knocked us out of the competition. Throughout the day the boys showed really good sportsmanship and were a credit to the school. Thank you to the IFSA for organising, it was a brilliant experience for all involved.

On Tuesday afternoon this week, all of the Year 4 children had a brilliant time playing Archbishop Benson in football. For many of our children, it was their first competitive match, and it allowed them to work on the skills they have been working on in games lessons and apply them to a match situation. Despite the damp conditions, all children involved played fantastically well and behind their muddy faces were beaming smiles. Over 70 children took part in the afternoon, and in each of the 4 games great sportsmanship was shown throughout. Congratulations to Archbishop Benson for winning all 4 of the fixtures. We look forward to beating them next year in the return fixture.

And finally, congratulations to our brilliant twelve runners, who qualified for the County cross-country finals at Newquay Sports Centre. We had a great team spirit, with the whole team encouraging and celebrating with each other about each other’s performances. It is a flat, fast course, with only one significant slope. As we expected, the start was the most challenging part of the race, with about eighty children competing in each race. These were the fastest twenty qualifiers from the four different sports partnership areas in Cornwall. All of our runners were incredible, some of them achieved top three placings (Archie J and Rowan in Year 5), others finished inside the top ten placings and some finished in the top twenty in their races, making it a memorable day!
