Lower Sixth Ethics Play

Today, Lower Sixth Religious Studies students performed an exciting compassion play in the Chapel about the famous tragedy of the “Migionette” as part of their ethics studies.

The true story of a group of sailors cast adrift in a small wooden dinghy after their ship capsized en route to Australia. Forced under terrible circumstances, they resorted to murdering the cabin boy to satisfy their hunger. The Audience was called upon to consider the evidence and listen to expert witnesses before deciding whether the survivors should be found guilty of murder or excused on compassionate grounds.

The 2^nd year watched the dramatic events unfold before listening to ethical experts, who tried to persuade them to support their side of the argument.  After the speeches, the scholars and crew mingled with the audience, who were able to question to crew and scholars to help them make up their minds. The verdict was that the group should be freed following a majority decision from the 2^nd year pupils.
