A busy weekend of running for Kenny, who travelled to RNAS Merryfield in Somerset as part of the Cornish Team in the South West Schools Cross-Country Championships. He had an excellent race in the Senior Boys, coming 15th over the 6k of long grass, mud and rough tracks. On Sunday he raced in the Newquay 10k and came an impressive 4th place overall and was the Under 20 Champion in a PB time of 33:30. Returning to training hard for the National Inter-Counties and English Schools Cross-Country Championships in March.
In the National Schools County Round Badminton Competition held at the SBA and hosted by Truro School, Penair and Torpoint teams joined four Truro School teams in an exhilarating morning of matches. The matches showcased impressive gameplay from all teams, culminating in wins for all four of our teams. Truro School players will now advance and play in the Regional Round of the National Schools’ Competition before Easter. Mrs Norfolk said, “This is an exhilarating time for our badminton teams, and it’s been a long wait for young players. The last County Round was played back in 2020 when we couldn’t progress to the next round due to Covid.”
In Fencing, huge congratulations to Sarang S for winning the South West age group Under 14 sabre title and to Chris L for taking the Under 16 title.
Well done to our U16 football team who recently travelled to King Edward’s Witley to take part in the 4th Round of the ESFA. The boys played brilliantly and we are incredibly proud of their efforts.
Our footballers enjoyed matches against Shebbear College and Saints SW last weekend. They all played incredibly well: 1XI 5-1 against Shebbear, U15 6-1 v Shebbear, U14 4-3 v Saints SW, U13 7-1 v Shebbear and U12 3-6 Saints SW.
The U15 netball team travelled to Surrey to play Gordon’s School in the semi-final of the Sisters in Sport bowl competition. Truro came out for the second half with newfound composure and produced some solid attacking phases. They won the quarter 11-7 with excellent shooting accuracy, bringing the halftime score back to 14-14. They showed excellent teamwork but unfortunately, it wasn’t quite enough, and despite some fantastic defensive and attacking play, Gordon’s secured the win with a final score of 37-27. Congratulations to Olivia and Imogen for being awarded Player of the Match from the other team!
In Hockey, the U16 team travelled to Millfield for the regional finals. Mr Opie was really proud of how the boys represented themselves and the school, as they grew in strength through their matches. A big thank you to the coaches, players and parents for getting to school to make sure everyone made the very early departure time.
More exciting cross country news, well done to Harriet S in the 4th Year who has been selected to represent Cornwall at the ESAA National Schools Cross Country Championships at Pontefract on Saturday 16 March. Well done, Harriet. Congratulations on a fantastic achievement!
It was fantastic to see so many students take to the courts to play their netball friendlies against Penrice Academy. Well done to all teams, players and coaches on some brilliant netball and both the 1st and 4th Years who achieved wins in their games.
