Our pupils were excited to welcome renowned, local author Wyl Menmuir, who recently won the Roger Deakin award for his book The Draw of the Sea. Throughout the day Wyl ran a series of workshops focusing on senses and feelings to get the pupils thinking about their surroundings.
Wyl also announced the winners of the Wyl Menmuir Writing Competition, where 2nd Year pupils had the chance to write their own version of what the sea means to them. Congratulations to all our runners up, who got the chance to take home a copy of Wyl’s book, but there could only be one overall winner and, with that, we’d like to congratulate Gabriel O for his piece which mixed generic with specific and a personal ending that really impressed Wyl.
A huge thank you to Wyl for taking the time to spend the day with us, the pupils all gained valuable insights into the world of writing.
