New Head Girl and Head Boy Team

A huge congratulations to the new 24-25 Head Girl and Head Boy team, Elowyn, Finlay, Megan, and Pax.

While deputies, Pax and Megan prepared speeches for the Lower Sixth Information Evening, we had the opportunity to sit down with Elowyn and Finlay, who shared their personal journeys and exciting aspirations for their new leadership roles.

Both Elowyn and Finlay expressed feeling a mix of excitement and apprehension about the year ahead. Elowyn said that during her 4th and 5th Years, she was inspired by previous Head Girls, Soumya and Tara, who served as fantastic role models. Similarly, Finlay drew inspiration from former Head Boys, Ollie and Oliver whom he met through choir, noting that they seemed to embody their roles perfectly.

Finlay’s journey at Truro School began in Year 7 as a chorister, and he has continued to thrive within the school community, “I feel it is a lovely community here, and all my friends were already here. It feels very tight and close-knit, especially in the Sixth Form.”

Finlay is currently studying English, Music, Maths, and Further Maths at A-Level and plans to take a gap year next year to pursue a music scholarship at Sherborne. Many will recognise his musical talents as an active member of the Truro School Chamber Choir, St Mary’s Singers, and the Cathedral Choir, in addition to playing the piano, double bass, and tuba.

Elowyn’s connection with Truro School began in Prep, “In fact, I started swimming at Truro School as a baby. I don’t really know anything else and have never wanted to change it. I always felt I had friends here, I am doing what I want to do, and it just feels like the right place to be.” She is studying Biology, Chemistry, Maths, and her Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), with an interest in international relations she will focus on North and South Korea for her EPQ project.

Regarding their plans and projects for the year, both Elowyn and Finlay are eager to dive into initiatives. Elowyn has a specific project in mind, “It’s about the bins. People don’t realise that one piece of unrecyclable rubbish mixed with recyclable waste can render the entire recycling unusable.”

She aims to redesign the bins and signage to provide clearer information on waste disposal. Finlay is also interested in exploring ideas around inclusivity.

These initiatives could significantly contribute to creating a more sustainable and forward-thinking school environment during this year of creativity.

As role models for younger pupils, the entire team are committed to being the leading voices for the School Council, which includes two representatives from each year group to propose changes within the School. They aspire to make participation in the School Council enjoyable and aspirational for all year groups, facilitating meaningful change.

The Head Girl and Boy team meets with the Head every Thursday for breakfast, providing an opportunity to discuss ideas raised by the School Council and develop actionable solutions. This dynamic team already has several key initiatives in their sights, and we have every confidence in their ability to effect positive change.
