On Wednesday, our U10 and U11 girls’ hockey teams travelled to Mount Kelly. It was a fun afternoon of hockey, which gave our teams plenty of time on the pitch.
Our U10 team developed their positional awareness, moving forward earlier for the ball, which led to numerous shots at goal. Freya, playing as goalkeeper for the first time in a match, did a great job covering angles and saving shots on goal. Fjola and Sienna worked brilliantly together in defence, closing down the opposition, intercepting passes and regaining possession of the ball.
A solid, defensive team performance gave our U11 girls a great base from which to move the ball wide, pass quickly and utilise the space. Phoebe and Cora, making their debut performances on this team, both managed to score after great build-up play from our midfield dynamos Tilda and Lissie. Returning from injury, Flossie commanded the defence, playing as goalkeeper and saving multiple shots on goal.
‘I think we played well as a team. Our opposition was great.’ Rosie and Phoebe
‘I think we learnt to move into space well to receive the ball. I loved being chosen as player of the match.’ Emily
‘I enjoyed tackling the other team. It was great to be named player of the match.’ Sienna
Well done to all of the girls and thank you to Mount Kelly for being such super hosts.
