Prep Sports Roundup

It has been another outstanding week for sport here at Truro School Prep.

On Wednesday, our U11 girls’ hockey A and B teams were in action against Truro High School. Our U11 ‘A’ team, fresh from a good defensive display last week at Mount Kelly, continued to stop any shots, with Flossie and her defensive squad performing well. Meanwhile, our midfield attackers, Tilda, Matilda, Eleanor and Lizzie, controlled the middle of the pitch and created many chances on goal.

Our U11 ‘B’ team were well-matched, allowing them to improve their positional awareness within a coached game. It was interesting to see the learning effect during the afternoon. Initially, our players were crowding the ball and getting in the way of each other. Gradually, they started to get free and move into space, spreading wide to help improve the flow of play and the quality of their passing, which was fantastic to see.

On Thursday, it was the turn of our U9 girls’ team who took part in the Plymouth College U9 Girls’ Hockey Festival on their fantastic all-weather pitches. Our team had lots of fun while developing their hockey skills. For many of them, this was their first-ever hockey match. Our mixed Year 3 and Year 4 team worked hard together on the pitch to move into space and get free to receive the ball.

In rugby, our Year 4 rugby players travelled to Plymouth College for a round-robin tournament against Exeter School, Plymouth College and Mount Kelly. Truro School Prep took two teams of children, many of whom were experiencing their first competitive contact fixtures in rugby.

All of the children did exceptionally well and grew in confidence and ability as the afternoon went on, showing fantastic handling, strong running and effective tackling. Our pupils were great ambassadors for the school and thoroughly enjoyed the experience of representing Truro School Prep in a rugby fixture away from home.
