Truro School Prep has delivered another week of outstanding effort and results in sport.
We started the week with a tremendous trio of football matches, held at Prep against some formidable teams from Bosvigo.
Our U11 girls took part in their first competitive fixture of the league season with impressive results! For the first few minutes of the game, we soaked up the pressure from the opposition, who were attacking in numbers giving us little room to play our passing style. However, our girls soon started to gain control of the ball and used the space to attack.
Bosvigo’s goalkeeper did well to keep the score down and was voted Player of the Match by our U11 girls. Truro continually pushed forward and created many chances to score. The final goal came when Alyssia picked the ball up at left-back position, and ran the length of the pitch (beating five players) before cooly slotting the ball into the bottom corner. The final score was 9-0 with strong performances from the entire team.
Our U11 A-team came up against a very strong Bosvigo team. Our synopsis comes from Year 6 pupil Jesse:
As the whistle blew, we played well, and it was a very contested first half. When they had the ball, we pressed and got our tackles in and when we had the ball, we got our passes and shots off. When the second half got underway, we kept our shape, and we played very well. Then Reggie dribbled past their defence and was one-on-one with the keeper and just slotted it past him to make it 1-0.
Soon after that Bosvigo pressed us very well and they got the ball and got a goal to make it 1-1. Right after the kickoff from their goal, Woody played a ball to Jesse, before Henry volleyed it home for 2-1. Bosvigo responded by passing the ball around us and scored to make it 2-2.
In the very late stages of the game, Bosvigo had a free kick and they hit the crossbar, but their player bicycle-kicked it into the back of the net. As the full-time whistle went, it was 3-2 to Bosvigo. I thought we all played very well and we should all be really proud of ourselves.
Our B-team’s win is detailed by William V:
In the first 30 seconds of the game, we had possession of the ball and were making solid tackles, great passes and decent interceptions. So far so good. Next, I booted the ball to Charlie, who passed it to Tristan, who crossed it to Toby for our first goal. After that, Mr Spear substituted George in for Arthur. Within a few minutes, Sam passed up to Toby (who was on the right wing), who crossed it into Tristan and he scored 2-0.
Bosvigo responded with a great bottom-corner shot, making it 2-1. After half-time, with George back in goal, Elliott scored to take the match to 3-1. A few minutes later, Arthur W made a good run but found the keeper instead of the net. At the final whistle, it was 3-1 to Truro. Everyone played well and there wasn’t a bad player on the pitch.
Our cross-country runners have also been performing exceptionally well, dominating the top 10 in their age groups across a competitive field. All teams showed great enthusiasm and determination and coped brilliantly with a sudden steep hill to deliver an outstanding set of results for Truro School Prep.
In their first competitive run, our Year 3 Team of Imogen, Nola, Zola, Millie, Jasper, Theo, Patrick, Finn T, Max, Bert, Josh, Alfie, Finn J, Rory S and Raphael showed great confidence and courage. Our Year 5 team was Ollie, Rohan, Sienna, Arthur H, Harry, Arthur W, Will, Tom, Ethan, Hennie, Audrey, Samuel, Fjola, Arlo, Barney.
