Andy Barber CEO of iMail Comms invited our senior pupils for a talk about working in the tech field.
Andy offered pupils an inspiring perspective on running your own business and advice for school leavers with regards to finding employment in the fast-growing tech and AI sectors.
His talk engaged pupils with facts that now around 10% of all school leavers become business owners, yielding a high chance that this may be the case for many in the room.
For those who do not have a definitive career direction, Andy advised to keep their education broad, know their numbers, and get sales experience. Advising that any experience in finance or sales can help you to gain invaluable knowledge adaptable to many fields of employment.
iMail Comms has been awarded as one of the Top 20 Tech Businesses to work in the UK by Great Place to Work. Andy’s ethic is to train his workforce, encouraging them to keep learning, even when in full time employment. He also offers a number of degree level apprenticeships and spoke how as an employer, personal qualities and experiences in a candidate can set you apart, even without the highest exam results. He challenged the group to think about their first role and what they can offer an employer? How skills such teamwork, adaptability, and the ability to learn independently can be invaluable. Voicing of skill gaps in the market, and how tech and AI careers are an excellent path for current young adults. Andy challenged pupils to think about university but also to consider alternative routes such as apprenticeships and finding work experience as early on as possible in any sales related role.
Andy created his entire presentation using AI, with some clear spelling mistakes, designed for pupils to pick up on.
We would like to thank Andy for his time inspiring our pupils and to Mrs Kenward for arranging this talk.
