The spirit of Cornwall came alive as Year 6 pupils gathered at Truro School for a unique Cornish-themed Activity Morning, part of the school’s admissions process ahead of entry into the 1st Year (Year 7). The event celebrated the county’s rich heritage and gave prospective pupils a hands-on introduction to life at Truro School.
The morning began with a warm welcome from Mrs Thurlow, Head of Lower School, before pupils took part in an ice-breaking game of ‘Pirates of Truro’ in the SBA. Pupils were then whisked away on a whirlwind of activities designed to inspire curiosity, creativity, and collaboration.
In the art studio, pupils created stunning seaweed designs inspired by Cornwall’s coastline. The cookery session was equally popular, with budding chefs whipping up traditional Cornish treats. Outdoors, the ancient Cornish game of Smite brought a competitive edge, meanwhile, in Design and Technology, they crafted a range of Cornish Puzzles. Geography foragers completed a treasure hunt and RE explored The Saints Way. Parents, too, enjoyed the day, attending a dedicated session to learn about the school and their children’s transition to Senior School.
Mrs Thurlow, Head of Lower School, said, “Our Cornish-themed Activity Morning is a highlight of the admissions process. It’s a wonderful way for us to connect with prospective pupils and families and showcase what makes our school and Cornwall so special.”
A huge thank you to our Prefects and Boarding students for helping out during the morning and to all our teachers and OPS staff who organised and led activities during the morning – and a special thank you to all the Year 6 pupils who joined us for the morning – we hope you all had a wonderful time!
