Dear Parents & Carers,
Dear all,
This past week has flown by; it feels like only a moment ago that I was writing to you about St Piran and all things Cornish. The past five days have witnessed the customary smorgasbord of academic lessons, co-curricular activities, trips and sporting events. We have even managed to fit in some flamenco dancing workshops, an Eco-Schools activity day and county hockey and regional football finals.
Please scroll down the page of this bulletin to find all of these stories and our notices, which include some key dates for the Summer Term.
Returning to Treliske House, our assemblies this week have explored the period of Lent; first learning about its history and traditions, before exploring what it could mean for us. Whilst many Christians choose to give something up for the 40 days, we identified that, rather than giving something up, we could, regardless of our faiths and beliefs, choose to do something extra that could make a difference to others in the period between now and the end of term.
Such tasks need not be grand or difficult; they could be as easy as making one’s bed, tidying a room, helping to prepare a meal or washing up the dishes. They could be as simple as helping friends or family.
Of course, the primary advantage of such acts is that it promotes harmony within the home or friendship group but there are secondary and tertiary benefits to consider. For instance, such acts of kindness also help us feel better about ourselves, and it is well-documented that the simple act of helping others promotes growth in satisfaction and self-belief. Furthermore, by performing such acts over a prolonged period, we find that they become habits which will serve us well into the future.

We concluded by remembering that, as ever, it is up to us as individuals how we engage in such activities and it is ourselves, our friends and families who will feel the effect (or lack of effect) of our actions. Returning to a very well used refrain, ‘We are free to choose but not from the consequences of that choice’.
I share this with you in the hope that some of you may have already witnessed your children engaging in this challenge. If this is not the case, please feel free to remind them of these words and to encourage them to participate.
In very simple terms, (and even if we begin today, on the 14th of March, and participate only until the end of term on the 4th of April), some 280 children engaging daily could produce almost 6000 individual acts of kindness over the next three weeks. Consider the fact that witnessing an act of kindness makes us more likely to engage in one ourselves, and factor in the staff, families and friends who may engage as a result, and this figure and its effect grows exponentially.
I wish you all a most enjoyable weekend with your lovely children, full of happiness and kindness.
With every good wish,
Rob Morse

World Book Week; Mystery Book Exchange
Ahead of World Book Week, please remember to take part in the Mystery Book Exchange.
All you need to do is send in, with your child, a much-loved book which is suitable and age-appropriate for your child and their year group, preferably one that will appeal to both boys and girls.
With that book, there would need to be a post it or piece of paper with a simple sentence to describe the book.
The rest of the magic will happen thanks to the fabulous FTS.
There are collection boxes in every form room. We would love to see the boxes overflowing with pre-loved books so that they can captivate the imagination of another young reader. Please remember that the book must be age-appropriate for your child’s year group.
Books need to be donated by Monday, March 17th at the very latest please.
More details of Book Week to follow soon.
With thanks,
Ms Cad
