Last week was a phenomenal week for sport at Truro School, with outstanding performances including the U14 boys’ football team reaching the national finals, the U14 rugby side retaining the County Rugby 7s title and a partnership announcement with Team Bath Netball.
A huge congratulations to our U14 boys’ football team, who secured their place in the final of the Independent Schools FA competition with a brilliant 3-1 victory over Orsett School. Playing on home soil, the team put on a fantastic display, with Olly S netting all three goals. A superb achievement and we wish them the best of luck in the final!
Our U14 rugby side continued their winning streak by retaining the County Rugby 7s title last Wednesday. Following their brilliant performance in Portugal, they played some superb rugby 7’s throughout the day scoring over 200 hundred points and only conceding 30 across 7 games. Victories over Falmouth, Brannel, Newquay Treviglas, Camborne, Penair and Newquay Tretharras led to a thrilling final against a strong Mounts Bay team, who were also undefeated until the final. In an outstanding display of rugby, Truro triumphed 35-19 to take the title once again. A big thank you to Mr Whitmore and Mr Excell for coaching the side and to Camborne School and Rugby Club for hosting. This group now looks forward to the Rosslyn Park National 7s tournament on the 25th March.
We are delighted to announce our new partnership with Team Bath, one of the UK’s top netball programmes. As a newly designated Team Bath Netball Academy Development Centre, Truro School will continue to nurture top-level netball talent. Team Bath praised Truro’s rich netball history, regional and national success, and the many players who have gone on to represent Team Bath and County squads.
Last Wednesday, our tennis players took part in a friendly yet competitive match against a select team from the Heron Tennis Centre in Newquay. Evie F, Evie N, Martha, Tilly, and Esther represented Truro School in an evening full of skill-building, match play, and fun activities, including video analysis, team warm-ups, trick shots, and doubles matches. Well done to all involved, and thank you to Mr Askey for coaching the team.
It’s been a packed schedule for our hockey players! The U12 boys enjoyed a valuable day of development at the regional finals at Millfield, while the U12, U13, and U14 girls delivered strong performances against Penair. To wrap up the week, a mixed team took part in a Friday Night Lights match at Mount Kelly. Although they didn’t secure the win, it was a brilliant contest. A big thank you to Mrs Wyatt and Mr Opie for their hard work across all these fixtures.
A fantastic week of sport, well done to all our athletes and coaches!
