Cornish musician Will Keating has had the whole of Prep singing, dancing, clapping and learning Cornish songs and sea shanties in a fantastic fun-filled day of song, joy and history!
Throughout the day, each year group took part in a lively singing workshop with Will, filling the air with the rousing melodies of ‘My Cornwall,’ ‘Wellerman,’ and ‘Camborne Hill.’ This high-energy session wasn’t just about singing – it was a fully interactive experience, complete with hand movements, rhythmic beats, and plenty of fun-filled moments.
Will started the session by introducing himself, a Cornish singer, musician, producer, recording artist, performer, and curator who thrives in a creative environment. He also familiarised pupils with his instruments and equipment, setting the stage for an inspiring and immersive musical experience.
He encouraged the group to have fun with the songs, regardless of ability. By the end of the session, the room was full of smiles as pupils learnt new Cornish words and versions of the songs, as well as expanding their knowledge of the local history of miners and Richard Trevithick.
After the individual sessions, the whole school was invited back to the assembly hall at the end of the day to join in with a group sing-along. The Pre-Prep children started the gathering by showing their peers what they had learnt during the morning, before the entire hall burst into song, action and cheers of oggy, oggy, oggy!
The assembly metaphorically blew the roof off the hall, with so much fun, cheer and sound, thoroughly enjoyed by all of the pupils and staff!
We would like to thank Will for his time today, bringing the joy of Cornish language and music to Truro School Prep in a fun and nurturing environment for children of all ages to enjoy.
