Senior Boys’ Boarding Blog

This weekend saw the second instalment of the boarders’ cookery lessons – the theme was Spanish food. Will, Bosco, Obum, Finley, Lorenzo, Jack, Trevor, Ryan and Lukas all had a great afternoon being taught by Maria and Manuel, the cookery school chefs. The paella looked and tasted amazing, the bread was fantastic, and so too were the tortilla and pudding. The boys thoroughly enjoyed sitting down with some of the girl boarders at the end of the afternoon to enjoy the meal they had prepared and cooked.

Dan and Cam, who will enjoy the cookery school next went to visit the local charity Shelterbox. This is a charity that pack and send vital equipment such as tents, food and water to disaster relief zones – their work is truly inspirational. After a guided tour, Dan and Cam were challenged to pack equipment for a hypothetical disaster in a short period of time. This gave them a good idea of the pressures of working against the clock in order to help those less fortunate than ourselves.

Also during the weekend was the art trip to London. Felix was the only Trennick boarder on the trip – he returned late on Saturday evening having enjoyed visiting the National Gallery in Trafalgar square, a West End performance of the play The Woman in Black, and a boat trip along the Thames river between the Tate Modern and the Tate Britain Art Galleries.

On the sports fields, James played well for the school rugby team in difficult conditions against Truro College on Wednesday. Many of the Trennick boarders continue to enjoy the evening and weekend use of the sports centre. Mr. Copeland was even seen in the gym with Lorenzo on Sunday morning!

Over the course of last week several of the boys received guidance and support with their academic studies. They are completing their homework in the school library during evening prep. The focus for this half-term for these boys in prioritising and time-management, and improving the quality of their work.
