Three Cross-Country County Titles

This year’s Cornwall Schools’ Cross-Country Relay Championships were held at Newquay Sports Centre with each team member required to run a mile of a very muddy, undulating course.

Mixed U16A – 1st Place

The mixed U16A team finished comfortably in first place and should be commended not only on their win but also for their excellent sportsmanship and for being fantastic role models to the younger teams. Izzy led the team out finishing her lap in fourth place, Grace (who has never run for the school before at Cross Country) then overtook two runners to hand over to Ben in second place. Ben narrowed the gap by running a well-judged lap, handing over to Isaac with a 50m gap to close for first place. Isaac closed this gap quickly, and by half way into his lap had established a comfortable 100m lead, before bringing the team home in first place.

Boys’ U14A – 2nd Place (U13s playing up a year)

Despite being entered into the U14 category, the U13 team performed exceptionally well. Against strong competition, Archie led the team on the first leg, handing over to Finn in a credible fourth place. Finn put in a determined performance overtaking two schools to hand over to Henry for the final leg. Henry set off in second position and maintained his lead over the third placed runner. Unfortunately, the winning team were too far ahead to catch, but considering the Truro School team were a year young for this category they should be pleased with their second place finish. They have high hopes for next year!

Boys’ U12A – 1st Place

Oscar led the team out after a very steady first run. Oliver was then able to improve the team’s placing over the course of his lap, before Matthew took the lead in his lap, leading to a comfortable win for the 1st Year boys’ team.

Girls’ U12A – 1st Place

Alice ran a brilliant first leg, despite conditions underfoot being rather slippy! Daisy then took the reins and overtook some competitors whilst running through a hailstorm before handing over to Jessica for the final leg. Jessica recorded the fastest lap of all competitors in her race (6:05) and led the team to victory! Well done girls – you deserved your chocolate bar at the end!

Boys’ U12B 

Rory, Finn and James ran extremely well in challenging conditions. They should be pleased with their team’s performance.
