Over the last two weeks, swimmers from across the year groups have been representing their houses with spirited pride in this year’s inter-house swimming galas.
1st Year Swimming Gala
The 1st Years gathered at the pool for their gala on the 2nd March. Every 1st Year pupil was involved in the competition, each swimming at least one event and earning points for their houses. There were some closely fought races and a vibrant atmosphere at the poolside. Many thanks must also go to the parents who came to support the event and cheer on their children.

2nd Year Swimming Gala
The 2nd Years’ enthusiasm was infectious, with many swimmers keen to ensure that as many as possible swam in each event for their houses, with pupils often stepping in to swim where others were absent.
Two swims were especially noteworthy for the determination and commitment to their houses earning themselves the Spirit of Swimming medals. Evan T was concerned that he may not be able to complete his race but determined to secure more points for his house, he determinedly swam 50m breaststroke. Struck with cramp during the breaststroke length of the IM, Nia E stopped to rest but then swam the front crawl length despite her pain to complete the race.
Two records were broken by Ben D. He took a phenomenal 7 seconds off the front crawl record taking it from 37.95 to 30.34 and an amazing 5 seconds of the backstroke record seeing it fall from 42.78 to 37.29.

5th Year Swimming Gala
What an amazing gala with regards to new records. All the individual girls’ event records were broken by Izzy L and both girls relay events by School. Beyond the fast swimming was an outstanding team spirit as houses entered mixed teams in the relays in order to gain more points. Many swimmers stepped up to swim events they otherwise would not in order not to leave their house without a swimmer.
