From their very first visit to the nursery, your child will be assured of an exceptionally warm welcome where their individual needs will be nurtured and supported.
At Truro School Nursery, we offer a curriculum that is both creative and challenging. Our children benefit from highly qualified and experienced teachers who provide the freedom to explore, learn and enjoy our beautiful outside spaces.
Truro School Nursery accepts pupils from the age of three, allowing your child to get one step ahead in their development by starting school early.
As an independent school, we have the freedom to create our own curriculum, one that nurtures and challenges young minds. When it comes to lessons, our specialist teachers always have something fun up their sleeves. From cross-curricular explorations in our Enchanted Garden as part of Forest School, twice-weekly swimming in our on-site pool, or learning basic words and phrases in Spanish, your child will quickly develop a lifelong love of learning.
We believe that an all-round approach to education is essential in helping every child thrive. It is for this reason that we teach a balanced curriculum in Truro School Nursery. As well as developing your child’s speaking, reading, writing and numerical skills, we place equal emphasis on the wider aspects of education including self-confidence, social skills and managing feelings.
Located within the secure grounds of Willday House, our setting is a safe environment where learning comes to life. From the core academics of speaking, reading and writing, to the wider aspects of education, such as self-confidence and self-awareness, Truro School Nursery is a place where children flourish in all areas.
Our highly experienced full-qualified teachers are specialists in Early Years education to degree level, ensuring that your child receives the best start to their educational journey.
When we say experienced, we really mean it. Miss Sampson, a fully qualified teacher, heads the nursery classes, while Mrs Banks, our Reception teacher, has worked in education for over 20 years. Leading EYFS, Ms Williams brings over 30 years of teaching experience, having also held roles as a Deputy Head and SEND Coordinator at an Ofsted Outstanding Nursery before joining Truro School.
Sharing the same secure woodland estate as our Prep School, Truro School Nursery pupils enjoy some very different learning experiences.
We make great use of the school’s heated indoor swimming pool and specialist swimming teachers. Learning to swim is all part of our unique curriculum with pupils making a splash every week. In Nursery, our philosophy is that swimming should be fun and is developed through play and exploration to encourage children to become safe and competent swimmers.
Swimming sits alongside our PE curriculum, also taught by a specialist teacher, that provides a further games-led session each week.
Music is a prominent feature of life at Truro School Nursery. Our passionate staff regularly bring learning to life with opportunities for song and dance.
We are proud to have outstanding Forest School provision and facilities, with three distinct outdoor areas. Weekly adventures led by a specialist Forest School teacher allow pupils to learn at their own pace by developing curiosity in the world around them, which in turn feeds back into their learning in the classroom.

Curiosity to always want to discover and learn more, academically and more widely too.
Because we believe that academic excellence is an important part of human excellence. Every child is an individual and we celebrate and develop their uniqueness, helping them to become an independent learner and encouraging each child to explore, understand and cultivate their talent and abilities, whatever they may be.
Compassion to understand and champion the needs of others, in our community and beyond.
Because our mission challenges us to be a vibrant community which enables people to live their lives to the full and transform society for the better. Located in the heart of Cornwall, our distinctive, serene location supports the development of balanced, unpretentious and reflective children who understand their role as global citizens.
Confidence to build resilience by learning from both successes and failures alike.
Because we want every pupil to be comfortable in their own skin, celebrating the uniqueness of each individual in the school community. Through drama, presenting and public speaking opportunities, as well as appearing in productions and concerts, pupils learn key communication skills and gain the confidence to prosper in the real world.
Creativity to be imaginative in how we express ourselves and approach new challenges.
Because we value the development of pupils’ imaginative and creative dimensions as well as their characters. Through a broad curriculum and wide range of co-curricular activities, pupils discover the important balance between creative and logical thinking. These opportunities are fundamental to ensuring your son or daughter discovers their hidden gifts, developing a sense of individuality and a confidence in their own abilities.
Courage to enjoy becoming the very best of who we are, with integrity and ambition.
Because we believe that essential life skills are often best taught outside of the classroom, balancing an academic education. Through a wide-ranging co-curricular programme, we offer every child the chance to participate, perform and lead in the fields of their choice. In a competitive world these opportunities are fundamental to ensuring your son or daughter develops essential life skills and an ambition for life.
