Girls’ Boarding Blog

In a break from the usual routine this week, the girls enjoyed a lovely summer evening walk at Trelissick Gardens with the junior boys on Tuesday evening. The beautiful views and shining sun were indeed a welcome break from classrooms and studying.

Another nice change from the routine came on Thursday; Sport Day! The girls all took part and had fun. Pupils were encouraged to wear their house colours. Although a little sleepy in the pre-breakfast photograph, the girls certainly played their part. The usual athletics style races weren’t possible this year due to Covid restrictions which meant the pupils kept to their year group bubbles for games including basketball and rugby instead. There was much laughter and joy throughout the school site and lots of sweaty and tired pupils with big smiles on their faces by the end of the day.

On Saturday we had a lovely gentle walk into Victoria gardens in Truro where we tried out the new café hut and treated ourselves to delicious ice creams, iced coffees and smoothies. The sun was shining and the birds were singing; for a moment it felt like we were on holiday. Upon our return  we said our goodbyes to Graci as she stared the long journey home for the summer.

Supper on Saturday was a lovely BBQ prepared by our great chefs. The boarders all sat outside to eat the traditional BBQ fayre of burgers, hotdogs and chicken kebabs, all accompanied by tasty sides and salads and followed by ice-cream. Afterwards, we headed up to the school fields for a game of rounders. Once everybody had gotten to grips with how the game is played, we had a few rounds. With some impressive hits and catches, and also some hilarious moments, it was lovely to all be able to socialise and laugh together.

On Sunday morning, we awoke to rain, rain and more rain! We braved the weather and went out with the Malvern girls to Trevaskis farm where we were able to shelter from the rain under huge poly-tunnels full of Strawberry plants. We were able to pick our own strawberries and once we had full boxes we treated ourselves to a takeaway hot drink in the hope of warming up. Once we returned we all got into nice warm, dry clothes and spent a little time relaxing and deciding what to make with our strawberries – Eton Mess was the firm favourite, before going up to the dining hall for a comforting meal of lasagne and garlic bread.
