Spring Sports Success in Sports Round Up

It has been another busy week for sport, with classes and teams really making the most of being out in the sunshine. Here are just a few of our competitive highlights.

A huge congratulations to our U12 A hockey team who placed as overall winners in their tournament this week, after beating Richard Lander School 2-0 in the final. Special mentions to Lilly L, who scored 15 goals throughout the tournament, and to Lucy D, who was voted player of the match by other teams. It was a phenomenal team effort and we are extremely proud of everyone.

Congratulations also to the U15 girls’ hockey team, who beat Truro High School this week to end the season as county champions.

Well done to our 1st Year girls’ hockey team who won their fixture against Penair.

In cricket, after winning the U15 Indoor Cricket County Tournament semi-finals last month, the Truro School U15 team took part in the final on Friday 11th of March. They faced Launceston, Redruth School and Mounts Bay. After some truly exciting matches, Truro School were crowned U15 Indoor Cricket County Champions. Congratulations to all of the team, this is an incredible result.

In tennis, the girls’ team travelled to Exmouth for round one of the Aberdare Cup. The girls’ team of Aimee B, Lilia S, Libby W and Sophie W put in the required effort and concentration to gain the victory but were beaten by the stronger Exmouth team. A great effort girls! Well done.

Meanwhile, the school’s leading boys travelled to Millfield on Wednesday to compete in the opening round of the Glanville Cup. Archie M, Loki N, Will H and Nico S proved too strong for their younger opponents, winning all their singles and doubles matches and progressing to the next round. The victory was the first for any Truro School tennis team over a Millfield team in over 30 years! Well done boys.

There was football too, with the U15s and U14s travelling to Penrice for a win and a draw respectively. Well done to the U13s who played brilliantly in their match against Humphry Davy School.

The 2nd year Netball team travelled to Bodmin College this week to compete in their U13 county tournament. After placing top of their group in the first round, all of the girls played some amazing netball to secure 3rd place overall. A great achievement for the team and one that Mrs Tresidder and Miss Bickley are hugely proud of. A fantastic end to the season!

In other exciting news, we are proud of 5th Year Pupil, Sam, who made his debut for Exeter Chiefs last week in their U16 match against Bristol Bears. Such a brilliant achievement; well done Sam.

There was also some amazing running from Annie M who competed for Cornwall this weekend at the English Schools Cross Country Championships in Kent.

Our athlete of the week is Elia. Here, we get to know here better with some great sporting questions:

Who is your favourite athlete?
My favourite athlete is Emily Scarratt. She is the Red Roses Centre.

What is your most memorable sporting moment?
My most memorable sporting moment would be my first 15-a-side game in which I played against Bude RFC. The scoreline seesawed throughout but in the end, Newquay-Perranporth-Truro won by a single try. This is so memorable as I had to wait a whole extra year to play 15-a-side because of Covid-19.

Which is your favourite sport and why?
My favourite sport is rugby because it is a game where I found a sense of belonging that other sports didn’t give me.

What would be your ultimate sporting goal?
My ultimate sporting goal would be to become the England women’s rugby head coach.  I have already started my coaching qualifications and have completed my lineout course. I am helping to coach the county girls under-18s while doing the county girls 15s sessions.

Who would you most like to have dinner with?
I would most like to have the whole of the Exeter Chiefs women’s team over.
