Our latest cohort of ACHE mentors came together to mark the successful completion of their peer mentor training. ACHE, which is short for Advice, Care, Help, and Empathy, is a programme designed to equip students with the skills and experience to support others through mentorship, active listening, and compassion.
After five months of dedication, our Lower Sixth students have completed the programme, which involves attending weekly one-hour sessions. Led by Truro School staff and guest speakers, these sessions explore the challenges young people may face and train mentors to listen, provide support, and guide younger pupils toward further help. Often, students find it easier to open up to an ACHE mentor before approaching a member of staff.
The programme is overseen by our chaplain, Rev Helen, and Health and Wellbeing Lead, Mel Corden Lloyd, with valuable support from the Sixth Form Team.
To celebrate their achievement, our newly qualified mentors enjoyed a wonderful evening, with beautifully decorated tables courtesy of Sophie, Bella, William, Andrii, Jess & Stanley, and live music from Matthew, Finlay, Samson, and Noah.
The highlight of the event was a talk from our guest speaker, Fran Brown (CO03), Paralympic Silver Medallist and a former pupil. Fran shared her journey since leaving Truro School, from having an accident at work that left her with a C4 incomplete spinal cord injury to winning a Silver Medal at the Paris Paralympics. She also won the 2023 World Championships in Glasgow. She encouraged students to continue striving for their best and highlighted how mentoring younger pupils is a meaningful way to give back.
The evening concluded with the certificate presentation by Truro School Head, Andy Johnson, who praised the students for their dedication and emphasised the vital role ACHE mentors play in the school’s pastoral care.
A huge congratulations to our fantastic ACHE mentors. We also extend our thanks to the staff who have supported them throughout their journey and helped make this special evening possible.
