Dear Parents & Carers,
Ahoy there, shipmates,
What a week! We knew that Book Week was going to be stimulating but nothing could have prepared us for the excitement and enjoyment that the last five days have brought.
Looking back 12 months, we all enjoyed our Book Day but felt that it was perhaps a little narrow and limited; a day of dressing up and a book focus, but with little gained in the longer term. In reviewing the event, we thought that we might be able to do a little better this time around and I am delighted to say that with Ms Cad at the helm, we went full steam ahead and have all enjoyed our ocean adventure.
With the theme of ‘Out Of The Blue’ and with the joint aims of ‘promoting a lifelong love of reading’ and ‘learning about our ocean environment’, the week has seen a proliferation of poems, assemblies, lectures, demonstrations, sea shanties, theatre productions, street libraries, Jackanory corners, beach cleans, visits, book swaps and webinars; all culminating in The Truro School Prep ‘Words and Musical Interludes’.
We have all, both children and staff, learnt so very much and had a great deal of fun along the way. It has been an absolute pleasure to hear the children exchanging stories about their favourite books, to listen to them talk about the amazing lectures and talks and recounting their adventures throughout the week.

There has been education, entertainment and inspiration on all matters literary and oceanic but, as the week has progressed, a third strand has emerged – that of ‘a sense of place’ and our understanding of, and love for, Cornwall. This naturally came to light as we engaged with the raft of lecturers and professionals from within the county and around our coastline but was personified during the sea shanty sessions with Will Keating. To see the children learning shanties in both English and Cornish, performing alongside Will and singing from their hearts, was a sight to behold, and it will live long in the memory.
So, there we have it: a spectacular week that we hope will inspire the children for years to come. It would not, of course, have been possible without the dedication and enthusiasm of so many people and I take this opportunity to thank all parents, FTS committee members, grandparents, friends of the school (both old and new) and of course the Truro School Prep staff for making Book Week 2025 such a resounding success. Of course, my final words go to our captain, Ms Cad. Having navigated such a successful course she most definitely deserves some shore leave and the chance to splice the mainbrace.
I wish you all fair winds and following seas and the smoothest of sailing over the weekend and the forthcoming holidays.
With every good wish,
Rob Morse

An Invitation
Dear Parents, Guardians and Carers,
I am delighted to inform you that we will be hosting a ‘Grandparents’ Cream Tea Afternoon’ on Friday 23rd May 2025 from 1.45pm to 3pm here at Truro School Prep.
The event will be open to grandparents of pupils in Years 3-6 and is a chance for our pupils to share their school and learning with their wider family members.
Please would you help us by sharing the attached invitation with your child’s grandparents and reply, on their behalf, by Sunday 11th May 2025 using this link > https://forms.office.com/e/1SLuuKuPFj
We understand that not every child will have a grandparent in attendance, and we will ensure that this is treated with sensitivity. We will arrange a separate programme and ‘treat’ for all children who are not directly involved in the afternoon.
Once the deadline has passed, we will send further information to those who have signed up to join us on the 23rd May.
Many thanks for your support in helping us to host this event.
With every good wish,
Rob
