Dear Parents, Guardians & Carers,

The past few weeks at Truro School have been a time of growth, reflection, and opportunity, as we focus on equipping our pupils with the tools to navigate their futures with confidence and purpose. At the same time, the arrival of Christmas trees and reindeer around the school site has brought a sense of festive cheer as we look forward to the celebrations ahead.

Exploring Options
Last week, we welcomed 3rd Year parents to our Options Evening, an important event designed to guide our pupils as they consider their GCSE pathways and learn more about MiYPortfolio. This was followed by the Inspiring Futures Day for our 3rd Year, who explored a range of careers advice, engaged in a Future Start workshop, and participated in taster lessons for potential GCSE subjects. These experiences are invaluable in helping pupils make informed choices about their next steps, inspiring them to align their academic journeys with their ambitions.

Sixth Form Leadership Development
On Wednesday our Upper Sixth students participated in a Leadership Development Afternoon, led by the expert facilitators from Intent. This session is part of our Sixth Form Diploma programme and is designed to enhance students’ leadership skills through dynamic, experiential learning activities. The Intent team are specialists in leadership and team development, and the workshop was designed to prepare our students for the challenges of life beyond Truro School.

Road Safety Awareness
Today, our Lower Sixth students are participating in a Road Safety Awareness session delivered by the Devon and Cornwall Police Road Safety Team. As young drivers and passengers, they face unique risks, and this session aims to educate them about the realities of road safety. Through powerful, real-life stories and practical advice, students will gain a deeper understanding of how to keep themselves and others safe on the roads.

5th Years Exams
A huge well done and thank you to our 5th Year pupils, who have been focused and diligent throughout their Trial 2 mock exams this week. Your commitment and hard work during this crucial preparation period will undoubtedly serve you well as you approach the final stages of your GCSE journey. Keep focused for week 2 of the assessments.

Festive Celebrations
It was an absolute pleasure to join the Sixth Form for their Annual Christmas Party at the Alverton Hotel last night. The event was a wonderful celebration of community and the festive season, made even more special by the camaraderie of our students.

With Christmas just around the corner, we are all looking forward to the upcoming festive events. The Christmas Concert on 13 December promises to be a spectacular showcase of talent, while the Nine Lessons and Carols service at Truro Cathedral on 16 December is always a deeply moving highlight of the school calendar. These occasions are a reminder of the joy, reflection, and togetherness that this time of year brings.

Warm regards

Emma Ellison

Assistant Head (Director of Studies)

Charity Day - Friday 13 December

On Friday 13 December we will be holding our next Charity Day. Pupils can wear home clothes to school by donating £2 to the charities the Community Action Team (CAT) have chosen to support, St Petroc’s and Link to Hope.

The CAT is a student and pupil-led committee that researches different charities and votes on which ones the school will support each term. All pupils then learn about the organisations during presentations in Chapel.

The donations will be added to school bills as we have switched to a cashless system at school. We hope that you will be happy to donate towards the charities, but please feel free to opt out by contacting the Finance office.

Best wishes, The Community Action Team

Head Lice

It has come to our attention that several pupils in the lower school are suffering with head lice which is being treated. However, we need to ask all parents of pupils to check their child’s and siblings’ hair for head lice and eggs and to treat, as necessary.

Please see the link below for advice on how to treat. https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/head-lice-and-nits/

Thank you for your cooperation,
From the Medical Team
