Dear Parents & Carers,
Dear all,
As I noted in last week’s Bulletin, we find ourselves in a particularly busy stage of term. I take this opportunity to thank the children, staff and you as parents, carers and guardians for contributing to what has been a most exciting and invigorating seven days.
Please scroll down in this Bulletin for a full run down of all of the news from this week, calendar updates and notices.
Here at Truro School Prep, we pride ourselves on providing a breadth of opportunity and this week’s offerings are a testament to staying true to our word. Football tournaments, visiting pupils and parents, netball championships (at Millfield), Pre-Prep ‘pancake mania’ and ‘Sleep workshops’ for children and parents topped the list.
Following closely behind, Mrs Stableforth, along with Reception and Year 2, led a Prep School assembly to launch the next phase of our Plastic Free School campaign; Mrs Stableforth’s ‘Turn it off’ version of the Taylor Swift classic was a highlight.
In terms of sheer range of experience, Year 3 can justifiably claim to be in the lead. Tuesday evening saw them performing a medley of Cornish songs on stage at the Hall for Cornwall and today, they visited the Royal Cornwall Museum for an Egyptian workshop.
To top it all, Saturday 8th of March, is the Prep School Open Day, and I am extremely grateful to all who will contribute to the event.

This week has, of course, also witnessed Shrove Tuesday, Ash Wednesday and the beginning of Lent, something we will explore further next week. The reason for the delay is quite simply that we could not pass up the opportunity to celebrate St. Piran’s Day (which, as you know, fell on the same day as Ash Wednesday).
In addition to a Cornish-themed lunch of pasty pie followed by a Cornish cream tea (jam first, of course!). We sang ‘Cornwall My Home’ before exploring the history of St. Piran. First, we learnt of his early days in Munster, his miraculous healing powers, the incredible journey across the Bristol Channel and his preaching of the gospel to the Cornish people (as well as a badger, a fox and a bear). Naturally, the origin of the St Piran’s flag was featured in our assemblies, but the Reception class took things a stage further, with each child producing their own version of the white tin cross on the black ore.
We learnt a few Cornish words, with the Prep School entering into a Cornish language greetings competition, and the phrase ‘Gool Perran Lowen’ (Happy St. Piran’s Day) echoed across the school.
To conclude, we took a moment to remember how very fortunate we are to live in this amazing county with its spectacular land and seascapes, delicious food and welcoming communities.
Ending on that very note, I thought you might enjoy this ditty entitled ‘To a Cornish Recipe Book’ by AW Jay.
With every good wish,
Rob Morse

World Book Week; Mystery Book Exchange
Hopefully you are all looking forward to Book Week at the end of this month. It is already jam-packed with exciting speakers and activities to further inspire a lifelong love of reading amongst our children.
An initiative we’d like put in place, is one that I have unashamedly pilfered from an organisation that ‘protects historic and green spaces and opens them up for everyone, for ever’.
The idea is that every child will be able to take home a used, but in excellent condition book for them to read and enjoy. The book will be wrapped in plain paper, with one simple sentence written on it to arouse the curiosity of the reader.
All you would need to do, is send in, with your child, a much-loved book which is suitable and age appropriate for your child and their year group, preferably one that will appeal to both boys and girls.
With that book, there would need to be a post it or piece of paper with a simple sentence to describe the book.
The rest of the magic will happen thanks to the fabulous FTS.
From next week, there will be collection boxes in every form room. We would love to see the boxes overflowing with pre-loved books so that they can captivate the imagination of another young reader. Please remember that the book must be age appropriate for your own child’s year group.
Books need to be donated by Monday, March 17th at the very latest please.
More details of Book Week to follow soon.
With thanks,
Ms Cad
