07.03.25 Senior Bulletin

Dear Parents, Guardians & Carers,

This has been an immensely positive week for the whole school.

Tuesday night’s concert at the Hall for Cornwall was a fantastic showcase of musical talent, with both Prep and Senior School pupils taking to the stage under the expert direction of Mr Osmond. The audience was treated to an exciting range of performances, demonstrating the breadth and depth of our school’s musical abilities.

On Wednesday, we proudly hoisted the St Piran’s Flag to begin our celebrations of all things Cornish. The day featured Cornish activities, including thought-provoking assemblies, a spirited performance of ‘Cornwall My Home’, a fascinating talk on Cornwall’s mining heritage, and, of course, the much-anticipated pasty option for lunch.

In terms of our sites, the Prep site is looking fantastic ahead of tomorrow’s Open Morning. The Senior site continues to maintain its high standards while managing the challenges of an ongoing major building project. This is not a straightforward task, and I thank you all for your patience and the pupils for their sensible approach to avoiding the construction area.

As you may have noticed, the building’s frame is now rising from the ground. On Wednesday next week, the first floor will be poured, which is a significant step but will involve several deliveries throughout the day. While we are carefully managing logistics to avoid peak drop-off and pick-up times, there may be slight delays at the end of the school day as concrete lorries arrive and leave the site.

Last but certainly not least, I would like to extend a big thank you to all the women in my life, both personally and within the school community. Tomorrow is International Women’s Day and is a moment to reflect on equality, diversity, and inclusion. It is an opportunity to reflect on how far we have come as a society in our drive towards an equal society, but then also acknowledge that we are not there yet, and constant focus, support and action are required to keep moving forward together.

Attendance

Strong attendance at school is important for pupil wellbeing, attainment and wider life chances. We recognise the impact of lost learning time due to absence from school and the challenges and pressures young people face in catching up on work missed due to absence from school.

At Truro School we consistently aim for 100% attendance and support children and their families to work towards this.  In incidences where there are concerns about attendance, our tutors and Heads of Year will work closely with you and your child to help remove barriers to attendance. Our attendance policy can be found on our Policy page.

I am delighted to introduce Sarah Harvey into the role of Pastoral Support Worker.  Sarah arrives to us with experience in working with young people in a pastoral role in schools and she is excited to be joining Truro School. Sarah will be working closely with the Mr Hooper, Senior Pastoral Lead and our Heads of Year to support the pastoral care of our young people.
