Dear Parents, Guardians & Carers,
It has been delightful to start the new term and New Year with a palpable sense of purpose and enjoyment from staff and pupils alike. As you will read in the stories below, we have welcomed new pupils to the School, as well as new equipment into the Sir Ben Ainslie gym, a large yellow crane, and we have enjoyed a whole school chapel reflecting on the theme of light. After two days of staff Inset, we returned to our academic and co-curricular endeavours with energy and drive, and we weren’t derailed by the weather!
We have the utmost confidence in the importance, strength and ambition of our school. Our values-based approach to education, rooted in our methodist foundation, our Cornish location, and our sense of community, are platforms not just to be different, but to be significant.
Our co-curriculum, on and off site, is unrivalled, off the back of huge commitment and energy from so many staff, and reflecting the myriad talents of our pupils. Our academic outcomes deliver nationally significant value-added across our ability range at A-Level and GCSE too, not just region-leading grade profiles for our County.

Our curriculums are evolving via the fashioning of innovative frameworks like the Diploma and MiYPortfolio. We can envisage a bold future where the Truro School difference is delivered via a bespoke series of phase journeys from Pre-Prep to Prep, to Lower to Middle School, and then Sixth Form, with each phase enhanced by its own innovative framework, delivering not just what any good school should, but added impacts that are bespoke for every child here.
This journey of ours as a School, with you, is not without its bumps in the road, traffic obstacles to navigate, roadside distractions, and occasional inclement weather surrounding us, but, to extend this metaphor perhaps too far, the bus we are on is a robust one, and the direction of travel is exciting for all on board.
And so, on behalf of all at Truro School, I wish you and your families an exciting journey through 2025 and thank you once again for entrusting your children’s education to us.
Mr A Johnson
