17.01.2025 Prep Bulletin

Dear Parents & Carers,

My first message is one of sincere thanks to you and the entire Truro School Prep community for your support during this week’s inspection. When I wrote to you at the beginning of the week asking for your help in completing the surveys, I had no idea that the response would be so overwhelming, both in terms of the number of people who engaged and the vast number of supportive replies and messages.

In fact, the survey responses from children and parents were overwhelmingly positive and, when compared to results at other schools, unusually so.

Whilst we have a month to wait before the publication of any report, the inspectors were incredibly complimentary about your children, the staff, and all aspects of teaching and learning.

Personally, I was extremely impressed with the way that the children responded to the challenges this week. They were exceptionally engaging and welcoming to our visitors, and their confidence, consideration for others and their clear love of their school shone through. I make no apologies for repeating once again that I am extraordinarily proud of them and I sincerely hope that you will feel the same way.

Of course, this week has not been all about inspection and, in addition to the plethora of work in the classroom, we have hosted sports fixtures and dance workshops, and preparations for both the Year 3 and Year 6 plays continue.

I also take this opportunity to wish the Year 6 pupils every success as they sit their Truro School assessment tests on Saturday.

Looking to next week, I must admit that we are all looking forward to returning to a ‘normal’ routine; although life is never dull here at Truro School Prep! We begin ISAMS training for staff in advance of our transfer of management information systems, we have plenty of sport to look forward to, the Reception class visit to the Senior School Geology Department and the Year 6 Youth Speaks Competition.

Before then, I wish you all a super weekend with your lovely children – they certainly deserve a good rest!

With every good wish,

Rob Morse

Routes into School

Following on from the reminder in last week’s Bulletin, we would like to ask parents and carers to be mindful of the impact of our school traffic on local residents.

Along with not turning right into the school from the A390 (this is illegal and can incur points on your license if you are caught), residents from the Lowen Bre estate, which is located opposite the school, have emailed us to ask that Prep parents do not use Lowen Bre as a place to turn around and then turn right from their junction.

Residents have expressed concern that this is posing a danger to pedestrians and other drivers and creating unwanted traffic in private driveways.

As a school, we always strive to minimise any negative impact we might have on our local community. As such, we kindly ask parents to proceed to the Treliske roundabout, travel back on the A390 and turn left into the school drive. We would always rather you arrive slightly late into school rather than put yourself, or others, at risk.

Thank you for your support and understanding in this matter.

Cushion Concert

On Saturday 18 January, Truro School and Truro Cathedral will be hosting their annual Boy Chorister Experience Day.

At the end of the event, there is a free Cushion Concert hosted by the Choristers.

Accessible and enjoyable for families, children can bring a cushion and sit at the feet of the choir as they sing. It starts at 2:30 and usually lasts just under an hour.

More information can be found here.

Be SMART Online

We have created posters to go up around school to remind our pupils of ways to stay safe online.

The SMART message, from www.childnet.com can be found in the poster below.

The Childnet website also contains lots of helpful information and guidance on a range of key online safety topics.

Christmas Jumper Amnesty

If you have any unwanted Christmas jumpers that have been or will be outgrown by next December, the FTS is collecting them to store until the next festive season.

Please bring donations into the Prep Office or Cookery School Cafe at the Senior School for your FTS reps to collect.

World Book Week Change of Date

Please note that this will now run in the last week of term, 31 March to 4 April 2025.

Please get in touch with Ms Cad ([email protected]) if you would like to help during the week.

Truro School Careers Convention

Delegate Invitation

We are delighted to invite you to participate in Truro School’s biennial Careers Convention, taking place on Tuesday, 18 March 2025, from 3.00pm to 6.00pm at the Sir Ben Ainslie Sports Centre.

This is an amazing opportunity to showcase your company or profession to pupils and Sixth Form students from Truro School and other visiting schools. Through face-to-face conversations, you can provide insights into your work – what it entails, qualifications required, entry pathways, and career progression – helping students benefit from your first-hand experience of the different options open to them.

If you are interested in joining us as a delegate or would like further details, please email [email protected].

We greatly value your expertise and hope you can join us for this exciting event. Further information for pupils, students and parent attendees will be shared shortly.
