Dear Parents & Carers,
It has been an absolute pleasure to welcome your children back to school this week. Both new and existing children have settled quickly into our school routine, and they have worked hard and had plenty of fun along the way.
We have certainly ‘come out of the blocks’ quickly and the first three days have seen us welcome the RNLI for a beach and water safety assembly, a visit from the trustees of the Methodist Independent Schools Trust, Year 1 travelling to Tolcarne for a beach and rock pools adventure and Year 5 enjoying an adventure-filled three-day camp at Barton Hall in South Devon.
Our assemblies have focused on the importance of welcoming our new pupils and staff (I hope that you will take the opportunity to seek out our new receptionist, Vicky Lane, and our new Assistant Head Pastoral, Will Silk) as well as reviewing the targets we set for ourselves back at the beginning of the academic year in September. We also revisited the schoolwide focus on metacognition; ‘thinking about our thinking’ and developing our critical thinking skills will remain priorities for the foreseeable future.

Finally, I take this opportunity to share with you some information I received during a recent Designated Safeguarding Lead training session. Information from our Local Education Authority identified that online activities remain the main area of vulnerability for children, and I thought it pertinent to signpost you to some helpful information and advice on phones and devices. I am acutely aware that there is a good deal of support for the ‘Smart Phone Free Childhood’ movement Smartphone Free Childhood and equally, there are many parents who feel that learning about such devices is an important part of a child’s educational experience. There is a great deal of advice available online; the NSPCC has a useful platform at Children and technology: Age-appropriate usage advice | NSPCC and Barnardo’s Keeping your child safe on their smartphone | Barnardo’s is also worth a look.
If your children currently possess devices, or if you are thinking of providing one for them, the best advice I can offer comes courtesy of the Head of Digital Strategy and Communications at a prestigious public school. He suggested that, if children have access to devices (such as games consoles, phones, computers, laptops or tablets), they should be used in a family setting, such as a downstairs shared room, where people (and especially adults) are always or often present. He stated that the overwhelming majority of issues arose when children were unsupervised, and particularly when phones and such devices were permitted in children’s bedrooms.
As ever, please do not hesitate to contact me if I can be of assistance in this or any other matter.
I wish you a very happy weekend with your lovely children. The forecasters suggest that we have fine weather coming our way, and I hope that you all have a good deal of fun in the sunshine.
With every good wish,
Rob Morse

Morning Drop Off
A reminder that access to and parking with the school is limited and can become congested. Alongside the one-way route (entering from the A390 Tresawls Road through to the exit onto Treliske Lane), a ‘drop and go’ system is in place.
We kindly ask that, wherever possible, parents do not park in the staff car park or the visitors’ parking bays for morning drop-off. These spaces are required for staff and visitors who are coming into school for taster days, meetings etc.
If you need to stop for drop-off, there are designated parking bays around the roundabout, with additional spaces behind the Prep swimming pool.
Thank you for your support in this matter.
An Invitation
I am delighted to inform you that we will be hosting a ‘Grandparents’ Cream Tea Afternoon’ on Friday 23rd May 2025 from 1.45pm to 3pm here at Truro School Prep.
The event will be open to grandparents of pupils in Years 3-6 and is a chance for our pupils to share their school and learning with their wider family members.
Please would you help us by sharing the attached invitation with your child’s grandparents and reply, on their behalf, by Sunday 11th May 2025 using this link.
We understand that not every child will have a grandparent in attendance, and we will ensure that this is treated with sensitivity. We will arrange a separate programme and ‘treat’ for all children who are not directly involved in the afternoon.
Once the deadline has passed, we will send further information to those who have signed up to join us on the 23rd May.
Many thanks for your support in helping us to host this event.
