Dear Parents & Carers,
In a week where we have witnessed the delights of the Year 3 production of ‘Robin and the Sherwood Hoodies’, witnessed a large part of the school take part in cross-country competitions (either in inter-school competitions held at Truro School Prep or at the County Championships at Newquay), the U11 girls travelling to Bristol to compete at the regional finals of the IAPS hockey competition and the preliminary stages of the House Poetry Competition, one could easily jump to the conclusion that this has been a particularly busy week.
Factor in the ongoing academic assessments, maths workshops for parents, numerous parent-teacher meetings, the Year 5 coast-to-coast cycle ride and visit to King Edward’s mine, outstanding results at the National Rotary Young Writer Competition, football cup matches, visiting parents, taster days for pupils, governors’ meetings and tonight’s Friends of Truro School Bingo and Film Night, and one has a more accurate picture of just how much we have achieved. This is, of course, in addition to the regular schedule of lessons, sports, activities and clubs.
Whilst these events are many and varied, the constant theme that runs through them is that of collaboration; of working together as a community. It is therefore, not by chance that this week’s theme has been the Truro School Community.
During this week’s assemblies we took a moment to reflect upon how lucky we are to be part of the Truro School family and how easy it is to take this for granted. Personally, I am in the extremely fortunate position of being able to show numerous visitors (from prospective parents and former pupils to governors and heads of schools from around the country and globe) around the school and, without exception, they all comment upon the warm welcome they receive, the confidence of the children and the overwhelming feeling of family and community.

We also made time to explore ‘what makes a good community, and to identify that such environments are places of support and growth, but also places of challenge and transformation. Most importantly they are places where ‘the whole is more than the sum of its parts’, where together a group can achieve things that are far beyond the scope and dreams of the constituent parts.
This led us to identify that we all, as individuals, have an integral part to play in building and maintaining such a community. We are all different (thank goodness!) and the key is for us to respect these differences, to understand and to celebrate them. I was fortunate to be able to make use of the keyboard skills of Mrs Renshaw and Mrs Banks and to use music as a symbol of what can be achieved when individuals (in this case musical notes) work together.
I concluded by underlining the fact that such skills will stand us all in good stead throughout our lives. As I have explained to your children before, they will spend their lives working with, living with and loving other people: those they work alongside, those they work for, those they employ, their friends, partners and families. The values and skills that are imparted here and now are the building blocks of their own principles, ideals and relationships going forward.
Kindness, respect and service to others remain central to our own Truro School Prep community and will, I hope, remain close to the children’s hearts as they grow into the wider world. As I have written before, I firmly believe that our future is in very safe hands.
With every good wish,
Rob Morse

An Invitation
Dear Parents, Guardians and Carers,
I am delighted to inform you that we will be hosting a ‘Grandparents’ Cream Tea Afternoon’ on Friday 23rd May 2025 from 1.45pm to 3pm here at Truro School Prep.
The event will be open to grandparents of pupils in Years 3-6 and is a chance for our pupils to share their school and learning with their wider family members.
Please would you help us by sharing the attached invitation with your child’s grandparents and reply, on their behalf, by Sunday 11th May 2025 using this link > https://forms.office.com/e/1SLuuKuPFj
We understand that not every child will have a grandparent in attendance, and we will ensure that this is treated with sensitivity. We will arrange a separate programme and ‘treat’ for all children who are not directly involved in the afternoon.
Once the deadline has passed, we will send further information to those who have signed up to join us on the 23rd May.
Many thanks for your support in helping us to host this event.
With every good wish,
Rob
Uniform Shop Updates
Please be aware that the uniform shop will re-open after Easter on Friday 25th April instead of Wednesday 23rd April.
With thanks.
Headlice Update
We have been made aware of cases of head lice in Prep and would very much appreciate your help in trying to eradicate them. Please can you check your child’s hair over the weekend, using the wet comb method, to help us become lice free! Head lice are difficult to find in dry hair, but in wet hair, they lose their grip, move more slowly and can be combed out. Regular combing will help to prevent re-infection as it damages the lice and breaks their life cycle.
To avoid using chemical applications, which are very bad for the environment, we recommend washing the hair, rinsing and applying a normal conditioner. Comb through the conditioner with an ordinary comb to remove the tangles. Then, using a head lice comb, part the hair into sections. Comb through, starting at the scalp and out to the end of the hair. After each stroke check the comb for lice and rinse or wipe the comb on some paper towel. After combing the entire head, rinse out the conditioner.
To try and limit the spread of head lice we would advise weekly wet-combing as above, maintain long hair in a ponytail or braids, avoid sharing combs/brushes and hair accessories and do not allow head-to-head contact. Many thanks for your help with this and have a lovely weekend.

Nature Book for Pre-Prep
As a part of our work towards achieving Plastic Free Schools Status, we are writing a book on all the species we find at school and home.
Our first animals are woodlice, earthworms and blackbirds. If anyone has any poems, facts or pictures on these animals, please send them to Mrs Rory Stableforth, our Forest School Lead with your name on them (vls@truroschool.com).
Food Allergy Awareness
A reminder that no food from home should be brought into school, unless you have prior consent from Mrs Cameron.
This includes snacks or treats for activities that run before, during or after school, both on and off-site.
Within our Prep family, we have children and adults with severe allergies and it is our duty to look after all of our community.
Sincere thanks for your cooperation in this matter.
Key Dates for the Diary
We wanted to share with you some dates for your diaries ahead of a busy Summer Term. More information on each event will follow nearer to the time.
There will be a few additional dates to come, but please add these to your diaries as they are confirmed.
