Truro School Cookery, in partnership with Leiths School of Food and Wine, is a state-of-the-art cookery school, open to all.
Whether you are a beginner looking to learn new skills, or a confident cook looking to be inspired, Truro School Cookery provides one-to-one guidance and tuition in a relaxed, fun environment designed to equip you with a range of techniques and recipes to encourage confidence in the kitchen.
The purpose built teaching kitchen is situated within the Truro School campus and offers a wide range of courses and activities for all ages, from full day, half day, holiday and student courses, plus a venue for bespoke events.
The Heseltine Gallery space is located above the Truro School Chapel and is named after our previous Head of Art, David Heseltine, who was instrumental in building up the school’s own art collection.
The Gallery is a beautiful open, light and airy space perfect for exhibitions of paintings, mixed media, sculpture and other events.
The Gallery usually hosts a minimum of two curated exhibitions per year alongside a programme of student exhibitions and creative community events. We work with selected themes for which we invite artists, students and creative community members to participate.
The Burrell Theatre receives a diverse mix of theatre, dance, live music and film productions. With a seating capacity of 200 or a standing total of 350, the space is very adaptable.
The theatre was officially opened by Sir Tim Rice in 2002 and went on to be awarded a special commendation by the Cornwall Buildings Group. The Burrell is run by a small but dedicated team and a crew of very experienced theatre practitioners. We have excellent front-of-house and backstage facilities, and our equipment is second to none for the size of the venue. So whether you’re hiring or visiting, the experience should be a pleasant one.
Set in a beautiful location overlooking the city, Truro School is able to provide a captivating and tranquil setting for any event. We can offer a wide range of conference and seminar rooms, exhibition spaces, rehearsal and performance venues. These include our very own picturesque Chapel, Heseltine Gallery, Events Centre and Burrell Theatre.
In addition, full board accommodation is available in our comfortable boarding houses over the Easter and Summer holidays.
Our in house caterers offer a selection of menus to suit your requirements and cater for large events, weddings, private receptions and parties. We provide all the ingredients for a very special and memorable occasion.
Truro School has a long-standing reputation for producing fencers of the highest quality. With our partnership with Truro Fencing Club many of our fencers have gained international honours. For those individuals who want to keep fit and learn a new skill, or those who aspire to national team selection, we have a programme on offer to support your fencing career.
The Academy has an impressive 8 piste fencing centre on-site at Truro School, the Cornwall Fencing centre, which is the home of Truro Fencing Club. There are training programmes to suit fencers from beginner to elite level, and Truro School has a dedicated member of staff who acts as the liaison between pupils and their families and Truro Fencing Club.
Our school motto, Esse Quam Videri (to be, rather than to seem to be), captures the essence of our identity and is defined by the 5 C's below. Underpinned by strong Christian principles, we are a caring and inclusive community which values, nurtures and develops each individual.

Curiosity to always want to discover and learn more, academically and more widely too.
Because we believe that academic excellence is an important part of human excellence. Every child is an individual and we celebrate and develop their uniqueness, helping them to become an independent learner and encouraging each child to explore, understand and cultivate their talent and abilities, whatever they may be.
Compassion to understand and champion the needs of others, in our community and beyond.
Because our mission challenges us to be a vibrant community which enables people to live their lives to the full and transform society for the better. Located in the heart of Cornwall, our distinctive, serene location supports the development of balanced, unpretentious and reflective children who understand their role as global citizens.
Confidence to build resilience by learning from both successes and failures alike.
Because we want every pupil to be comfortable in their own skin, celebrating the uniqueness of each individual in the school community. Through drama, presenting and public speaking opportunities, as well as appearing in productions and concerts, pupils learn key communication skills and gain the confidence to prosper in the real world.
Creativity to be imaginative in how we express ourselves and approach new challenges.
Because we value the development of pupils’ imaginative and creative dimensions as well as their characters. Through a broad curriculum and wide range of co-curricular activities, pupils discover the important balance between creative and logical thinking. These opportunities are fundamental to ensuring your son or daughter discovers their hidden gifts, developing a sense of individuality and a confidence in their own abilities.
Courage to enjoy becoming the very best of who we are, with integrity and ambition.
Because we believe that essential life skills are often best taught outside of the classroom, balancing an academic education. Through a wide-ranging co-curricular programme, we offer every child the chance to participate, perform and lead in the fields of their choice. In a competitive world these opportunities are fundamental to ensuring your son or daughter develops essential life skills and an ambition for life.
