Fencing at Truro School

Truro School has a long-standing reputation for producing fencers of the highest quality. With our partnership with Truro Fencing Club many of our fencers have gained international honours. For those individuals who want to keep fit and learn a new skill, or those who aspire to national team selection, we have a programme on offer to support your fencing career.

Why try Sabre fencing at Truro School?

Fencing not only offers pupils the opportunity to learn a new discipline and improve fitness but it tests their strength, technique, tactical ability and control. It is also an excellent means of learning respect through sport and building self-confidence.

There are clubs in place from the earliest opportunity to attract pupils to the sport, with fencing clubs in the pre-prep and prep schools. When these pupils move into the senior school they can continue their development by accessing the coaching, training and facilities at Truro Fencing Club, which is based on-site in the Cornwall Fencing Centre.

Who can do it?

Newcomers to the sport are encouraged to join the Wednesday afternoon activity, before joining the more advanced, improvers’ fencing club. There are further clubs available through Truro Fencing Club which dedicates itself to the development of both talent and potential.

Boarding at Truro School

Truro School offers both day and boarding options and welcomes international pupils from all over the world. Around 50% of the school’s boarders are British with parents living and working overseas or elsewhere in the UK and our international students join us all over the world. Boarders live in one of our three small boarding houses in a home-from-home environment where they form friendships that last well beyond their school years. An academically rigorous environment is balanced with a wealth of pastoral care to get students the results they need to move on to the next stage of their education, at home, in the UK or further afield, and the life skills to prepare them for all that follow.

The Truro School Identity

Our school motto, Esse Quam Videri (to be, rather than to seem to be), captures the essence of our identity and is defined by the 5 C's below. Underpinned by strong Christian principles, we are a caring and inclusive community which values, nurtures and develops each individual.
