1st Years off to a Flying Start

We are delighted to report our 1st Year pupils have had an action-packed introduction to Truro Senior School. They have enjoyed team-building activities in the woods, including lighting fires, tying knots, and navigating remote paths. Their enthusiasm has already translated into multiple successes across various sporting fixtures, showcasing excellent teamwork and sportsmanship.

Yesterday, it was heartwarming to see a group of our youngest pupils, along with some 2nd Years, engaged in a pupil-led table tennis competition in the quad. Meanwhile, a small group in the library sheltered from the Cornish mizzle with a focused game of Top Trumps.

Among the popular Wednesday Afternoon Activities (WAA) for this year group is squash, which caters to all skill levels. This allows pupils to either try a new sport or enhance their existing skills under the guidance of a dedicated squash coach.

In the fencing salle, we have witnessed a high level of interest from 1st Years eager to participate in this sport, which demands a unique combination of fitness and strategic thinking. Yesterday, they practised their attacks and parries, competing to score points against one another.

Additionally, students who opted for the WAA Fitness Suite sessions teamed up with peers from all year groups to participate in an Olympic-style competition, representing teams from Jamaica, China, and the USA in a 7-minute rowing challenge. Well done to everyone involved!

All WAA activities will continue until Christmas, when pupils will select from a wide range of activities for the winter term. Mr. Mills said, “I am thrilled to see how well our first Years have embraced these new challenges and fully engaged with the opportunities presented to them. After such a fulfilling start to the year, we hope they all enjoy a well earned half-term break.”
