The Islamic community in Cornwall comprises approximately 3,000 individuals and is the second-largest religion in the UK. Our 4th Year Religious Studies GSCE pupils were very interested in visiting the Islamic Centre near Truro to better understand Islamic religious beliefs and the Arabic language.
At the Centre, Mohammed delivered a comprehensive presentation on the Six Articles of Faith and discussed monotheism, the Five Pillars of Islam, and talked about the Quran. His presentation was relevant to the content our 4th Year pupils had been covering in class. Following the presentation, pupils engaged in questions and discussions and learnt about the prayer rituals which are performed five times a day and often attract between 50 to 70 people.
It was a fascinating experience for our pupils and we would like to thank the team at the Islamic Centre in Truro for their warm welcome and hospitality. Islam and Christianity are the two core religions studied in the Truro School Religious Studies GCSE curriculum and it was a wonderful opportunity for our pupils to engage on a deeper level with their classroom-based studies.
Back in the classroom, they created their own board games to help them understand more about Islamic beliefs.
