A Fond Farewell to Mrs Issaka

Today, Truro School Prep staff and pupils said a fond farewell to one of the school’s longest-serving members of staff,  Mrs Maggie Issaka. She joined the Prep in 1998 and has been a much-loved pillar of our school community since then.

When she joined, Mrs Issaka was known as Maggie Cresswell and Truro School Prep was known as Treliske. During her career at Truro school, Mrs Issaka has seen many changes including the extension of the Pre-Prep, the building of the Lovett Hall and Grassby Buildings and the construction of the Millennium Building.

She has worked with six Head Teachers (Hollins, Grassby, Lovett, Patterson, Frewer and Morse), hundreds of colleagues, and influenced thousands of children who have benefited from Mrs Issaka’s kindness, care and dedication.

Today, she was presented with an engraved clock, an identical version of which will be displayed here at Prep to keep us running to time. Pupils also presented her with a book full of lovely messages and drawings.

Head of Prep Rob Morse remarks, “We often talk about staying true to our values and, in Mrs Issaka, we have the best of role models. She always does her best for you as the children of the school (and she also does it for the staff as well). She puts others before herself and she does her utmost to understand, help and support them.

And actually she does the same thing for Truro School, whether it be as a class teacher, form tutor, girls’ pastoral care coordinator, Pastoral Care Coordinator, a humanities coordinator, Head of PSHEE, an Assistant Head Pastoral or a Deputy Safeguarding Lead. Whether it has been on the sports field, when leading hymns, taking assemblies, organising and leading events in and out of school… She put us, the school before herself.

The time has come for that to change. For her to be able to prioritise her family and, for perhaps the first time, to do what she and her family want and need. And I hope you will join me in wishing her every happiness from this point forward.

We wish her a very joyful retirement, full of family, friends, travel, camping and football. And whilst we wish her a fond farewell, we also hope she will remember that she is always welcome here and that we will see her back here at Truro School Prep before too long.”
