As a continuation of their topic-based learning around dinosaurs, our Reception children travelled up to the Senior School site for a visit to our Geology Department.
Delighted children were greeted by a friendly T-Rex as they entered the classroom before they engaged in a carousel of exciting activities led by the Head of Geology, Miss Justine Hope, and our three Geology A-Level Prefects, Oscar, Lizzy and Bea.
Having looked at a range of different dinosaurs and matching them to some impressive fossils, our children were then tasked with ‘digging’ for bones in a sandpit before assembling a dino skeleton, measuring dinosaur footprints with blocks and recording their findings, and making ‘fossils’ from moulds of various dinosaurs including an ichthyosaurus and an iguanodon.
“It has been such a treat to share our amazing facilities with children from the Prep School and to give them an insight into the fascinating world of Geology,” Miss Hope reflected. Truro School’s Geology Department is certainly one to be proud of, being in the top 5% nationally in terms of value-added for A-Level and the largest GCSE Geology centre in the country.
We would like to thank everyone involved for creating such a fun, engaging and memorable session for our Reception children, all of whom showed great confidence, curiosity and courage, particularly when faced with a T-Rex!
