A Slice of Cake and a Good Read

As a part of Truro School’s World Book Day Celebrations (which will culminate in World Book Day next week on Thursday 7 March), staff at Truro School were invited to Cake Thursday in the Library at break time.

The initiative was set up by the Library Team to encourage staff to explore the newly refurbished space. It was also a chance for staff to recommend and share their favourite reads. Picks including ‘A White Merc with Fins’ by James Hawes and Roald Dahl’s ‘The Enormous Crocodile’ were amongst those books written onto ‘leaves’ and added to the Library’s reading tree; a beautiful wooden carving crafted by Mr Baker and the DT Team on the CNC router.

Staff were also introduced to the new LibGuides app on MyApps which gives pupils, students and staff 24-hour access to databases, resources and inspiration for good reads. It is particularly useful for those students currently undertaking their EPQ.

Next week, the school will be encouraging our pupils to “Get Caught Reading”. Any pupil “caught” reading at breaktimes or while waiting for the next lesson will be issued with a raffle ticket to enter into a prize draw. With book tokens up for grabs, we hope that this will further encourage reading around the school.

A huge thank you to the Library Team for hosting such an inspiring break. We look forward to sharing updates from World Book Day soon.
