Our budding artists in the 2nd and 3rd Year have shown remarkable enthusiasm for our new Arts Award Programme. Their eagerness to develop their creativity, knowledge, and experience of different art forms is inspiring. This new WAA Club requires 40 hours of guided learning and independent work and is the first level of the Arts Award programme overseen by Trinity College and in association with the Arts Council.
Today, pupils reviewed the exhibition “Cut Press Print,” currently on display in the Heseltine Gallery. They were encouraged to identify their favourite pieces and reflect on what specifically attracted them to each work. They considered aspects such as subject matter, shape, colour, and techniques, followed by group discussions to share their insights.
Layla, a 2nd Year pupil, admired the intricate details in Lou Tonkin’s linocut “Winter Hare.” Olivia was captivated by the gold leaf accents in “Hold Your Light,” noting that the gold truly drew her attention and highlighted key areas of the piece. The impressive woodblock prints by Felix Packer, particularly the depiction of Brunel’s distinctive bridge in “Saltash”, resonated with a group of pupils who quickly recognised the landmark.
We are fortunate to have Mr. Brett’s exceptional screen prints on display, many of which are inspired by locations familiar to our pupils. The exhibition also features complementary pieces from the Heseltine Collection.
This has been a promising start to the Bronze Art Award, and we are excited to see how this group will continue to grow and develop their artistic skills over the coming weeks.
