Celebrating Rosh Hashanah

This week across the Senior and Prep sites we have been acknowledging Jewish New Year as Jewish people within our community enter into Rosh Hashanah from today until the 4th of October.

Rosh Hashanah is an opportunity to turn back to God and make a fresh start – looking forward in hope to the year ahead.  A Jewish custom is to dip apples in honey and eat them while thinking about what sweet things are hoped for in the coming year.  During Rosh Hashanah a horn called a Shofar may be heard as a call for repentance (to turn away from things that are causing harm, rather than doing good).

Rev Helen, joined by Mr Berger, invited our Senior School pupils to dip a piece of apple in honey and think about what sweet things they hope for the world and what they can do to help realise that hope.

At Truro School Prep, pupils have also been learning about Rosh Hashanah, with some pupils being given the chance to dip apples in honey and reflect on one of the key messages for this term; what can you do now that will help to shape the future.
