Chicago Rehearsals in the Spotlight

Pupils from our 4th Year to Upper Sixth have been busy rehearsing and preparing backstage for their performance of Chicago: Teen Edition.

The music rooms have been filled with song, led by Mr Osmond on piano, while the Burrell Theatre has come alive with pupils rehearsing lines with Mr Oldfield, who is directing the cast.

As the stage comes alive, pupils working behind the scenes have been eagerly assisting too. Guided by Swen and Andrew in the school’s Tech Department, Sixth Form students Cyrus, Jasper and Tom are seasoned professionals at assisting with the build, which includes the construction of the eight staircases required for the Chicago performance.

Pupil Tilly is working alongside new staff member Annie Lucas in the costume department, as part of her volunteer work for her Silver DofE. Annie brings 20 years of experience working in London ballet and dance shows, along with professional costume design and wardrobe knowledge. She has been showing Tilly how to take performers’ measurements, and methods to catalogue stock. The pair are currently working together to source more costumes for the show including ten ostrich fans for the performance of “All I Care About is Love”.

Although Lower Sixth student Celia has experienced all departments including sound, art direction, costume production and design, she is focusing on acting for Chicago, taking on the role of Mary Sunshine. Celia has a real passion for performance and theatre. She is studying Drama A-Level, whilst considering her progression options in the field. She describes the opportunities provided by Truro School in terms of school productions and introductions to professional companies as “life-changing”.

Jasmine and Elsie from Lower Sixth are performing as Mama Morton, giving them the opportunity to showcase their passion for acting, singing and dance. Elsie aspires to be a professional singer, whilst Jasmine is a Drama Scholar. Both are excited and nervous to take to the stage and have been working on the performance since auditioning for parts in February.

This unmissable show runs from the 20th to the 23rd of November in The Burrell Theatre. Tickets are available to purchase here.
