Our Year 5 and 6 pupils have been busy creating submissions for this half term’s Bigger Picture Homework. Set to encourage deeper thinking and creative responses to open-ended questions, it is always wonderful to see how our school community responds to this project.
With the festive season upon us, our Year 5 pupils have been tasked with looking into the significance of Christmas decorations and creating one of their own. Responses ranged from table-top decorations to baubles, wreaths and miniature reindeer. Many pupils opted to make their creations out of sustainable or repurposed materials. All of their submissions will be entered into the Christmas Fayre Decoration Competition on Friday 6th December.
Our Year 6 pupils have been inspired by the words of the famous poem, In Flanders Fields by John McCrae; “In Flanders fields the poppies blow, between the crosses, row on row.” McCrae wrote this poem during World War I after the death of a friend and fellow soldier. Our eldest Prep pupils have been tasked to research the life of someone who was a part of The Great War. Many chose someone from their own family or a former Truro School pupil and looked into their role in the war and whether they survived it.
There were some fascinating and thought-provoking responses and you could see the pride and interest taken in this research.
Well done everyone!
