Supporting Age UK on Charity Day – Friday 31 January
This Charity Day, we are proud to support Age UK Cornwall, a charity dedicated to empowering older people and ensuring their voices are heard. Their new campaign is starting a national conversation about what kind of later life we want for ourselves and our families. They provide a platform which works to support and make older people’s voices heard whilst giving them information and advice. They are working to change the conversation around aging and what this means to our families.
Ahead of Charity Day, we were delighted to welcome Ian Penhaligon and Tim Guy to speak to our pupils on Monday and Tuesday about Age UK, Cornwall. They talked about the wide-ranging work and support they offer to inter-generational audiences across Cornwall. Our pupils were surprised to learn that 24% of the population in Cornwall are over 60 years of age, 3% over are 85 years of age, and by 2050 it is estimated one in four of the UK population will be over the age of 65.
On Friday 31 January, pupils and students are invited to wear home clothes to school in exchange for a donation to Age UK. A huge thank you to our Community Action Team (CAT) members for leading this week’s assemblies and raising awareness about Age UK’s invaluable work.
