Alongside an outstanding education and excellent co-curricular and extra-curricular activities, life at Truro School offers our boarding community access to the benefits of a life in Cornwall.
The West Country is one of the most popular destinations for tourists and UK residents hoping to re-locate. Here at Truro School, we believe that being a boarder in this part of the world offers pupils something special too.
So what is it about Cornwall that makes it such a unique place for our boarders to come?
Here are FIVE things we think make Cornwall best for boarding.
Cornwall has so much to offer in terms of landscape and places of interest. Surrounded on three sides by a stunning coastline, the county offers the chance to explore some of the UK’s best beaches. This opens up endless opportunities for walks, nature-spotting and watersports along Cornwall’s diverse coasts.
But Cornwall’s geography is also incredibly diverse. With woods, moors, fields and farmland to explore, it is also one of the UK’s premier sites for places of geographical interest and a Cornish World Mining Heritage Site. Certainly, our outstanding Geology Department at Truro School is considered to be one of the best in the UK and our school community makes excellent use of our location.
Truro School is nestled in the centre of the city of Truro; a bustling city that is alive with art and culture. Truro Cathedral sits at the heart of much of the city’s music and events, but the recently renovated Hall for Cornwall is also host to some of the UK’s best music, arts and drama.
There is a museum, galleries, a cinema and plenty of fabulous restaurants and cafes to explore as well.
There is a different ‘feel’ to life in Cornwall; for those who don’t relish a busy metropolis, Truro offers a more laid-back lifestyle. And, with Falmouth, St Ives and other well-known towns on our doorstep, there is no end to the opportunities our boarders have to engage in the local community.
Our boarders are active and enjoy a range of outdoor activities that we are lucky enough to have on our doorstep. From surfing and stand-up paddleboarding, climbing, horse riding, paintballing and BMX-ing. Cornwall offers a multitude of fun activities to keep our boarders fit and healthy.
Not only does living by the coast benefit our boarders in terms of access to the great outdoors and cleaner air, but our pupils are also encouraged to get involved in local efforts to improve our local environment. Cornwall is forward-thinking when it comes to protecting the environment and offers pioneering insights into renewable energy and climate concerns. There is a genuine effort amongst local businesses to be eco-friendly
and sustainable. At Truro School, we encourage our pupils to try and give something back to the local community and environment.
Cornwall is a unique place in that it provides a space for our boarders to uncover new passions, form genuine friendships and engage with interests from a wide range of activities. Cornwall attracts those who are passionate about the arts, sports, the environment… We are lucky that our boarders bring an international perspective to our School, further enhancing the opportunity to learn and grow while they are here with us.
Cornwall is a unique place and one we are proud to call our home. local community and environment.
