Cornwall Music Festival 2025

Last week, the Cornwall Music Festival celebrated its 113th year, bringing together talented musicians, singers, and spoken word performers from across the county. As always, Truro School participated across many categories, with pupils from both Senior and Prep Schools showcasing their talents across multiple categories.

A huge congratulations to everyone who took part, many of whom achieved fantastic success in their respective classes, including:

Scale the Wall (Mikey L & Oliver H) – 1st place in School Rock/Pop
Truro School Junior Strings – Commended in String Ensembles
Truro School Chamber Choir – Winners of the Woolmington Shield (Senior School Choirs)
Pitchforks – Winners of the Youth Choirs Cup (Young Person’s Groups)
Vocal Ensemble – Winners of the Ronald Grubb Shield (Young People’s Groups)
Celtic Chords – Winners of Instrumental Ensembles, and the CMF Trophy for the Instrumental Ensemble.
Truro School Wind Band – 2nd= place, with a score of 85
Truro School Junior Band – 1st place, with a score of 82, awarded the Frances Woodley Trophy
Truro School Vocal Ensemble – awarded The John J Matthews Gold cup

Further individual achievements include:
Sarang S – 1st place in Violin (Grade 7), Saxophone (Grade 6), and Piano (Grade 6), earning top honours across the board.
Victoria S – Winner of the Carn Brea Award for bowed strings (above grade 8)
Daisy L – Winner of the CMF Award for her vocal class
Natalie P – Awarded the Nalder Trophy for best vocal solo in the festival
Erin & Verity – Joint 2nd place in the Truro Rotary Club Young Musician Award

Outstanding Prep School performances include:
Malhar – 1st place in Violin (Grade 3), Verse Speaking, Own Choice Humorous Poem, and Under-11 Own Composition (plus Highly Commended for her poem Once I Dreamt That)
Annie – 1st place in Under-11 Cello
Penny & Cora – Strong performances in Under-11 Cello
