Our WAA Creative Club members have been busy working on their screenplay projects under the guidance of talented award-winning author Emily Barr. This week, Emily has been helping pupils grasp the essentials of screenplay structure, a format that applies to all screenplays, regardless of length.
Discussing very familiar examples, she introduced the five-act structure and highlighted the significance of the mid-point in storytelling. She then spoke to pupils about the importance of developing a strong and relatable main character, or protagonist, whom the audience can connect with before introducing an antagonist, which could possibly be another character or an obstacle the protagonist must confront.
To reinforce their learning, pupils watched an episode of Pingu, which is a wonderfully clever example of a five-minute screenplay that effectively demonstrates all the concepts discussed. Afterwards, they broke into their project groups to develop their own screenplay ideas based on their learning.
This Wednesday Afternoon Activity is proving to be an exciting opportunity for our pupils, and we are eager to see how their creative ideas flourish. A heartfelt thank you to Emily for her invaluable guidance and support.
