First Class Success in the Maths Feast

Truro School’s 4th Year maths teams achieved outstanding success in the Cornish Team Maths competitions organised by AMSP (Advanced Mathematics Support Programme) this term. Among 13 competing teams, our two teams secured 1st place and 6th place. James, Joseph, Kai, and Sarang achieved an impressive score of 78 out of 84, they also received a special commendation in Round 2 for achieving the highest score in the country. Furthermore, Cici, Leah, Wendy, and Yuqi secured an excellent score of 48 out of 84.

The competition consisted of four challenging rounds. In Round 1, titled “Would I lie to you?” a true/false round including a Fermi estimation problem, Truro School came in 2nd place. Round 2, “Cubes and Ribbons”, a problem-solving round involving nets of cubes, required great teamwork, and our team excelled by achieving the highest score ever seen by the event organisers in this round. Round 3, “Broken buttons”, tested pupils’ ability to identify a malfunctioning button to produce specific calculator outputs. One team scored full marks and emerged victorious in this round. The competition concluded with the team relay in the 4th and final round.

Congratulations to both teams for their hard work and dedication in representing our school with excellence, determination and teamwork.
