Game On: Pupils Embrace Fantasy and Strategy

The Wednesday afternoon and Monday and Tuesday lunchtime game sessions continue to be as popular as ever. These sessions feature the much-loved Dungeons and Dragons role-playing game, as well as the fast-paced strategic card games ‘Magic: The Gathering‘ and ‘Sorcery: Contested Realm‘, where players cast spells and summon creatures to defeat their foes.

These sessions are immensely popular among pupils of all ages, with some dedicated players, from 1st Year through to Sixth Form, attending every week. These fantasy and strategy games require critical thinking, mathematical skills, teamwork, and patience.

The groups have grown in popularity, allowing more games to run concurrently. Many pupils now run their own groups, and Sixth Former Charlie D has started a second Dungeons and Dragons group on Wednesday afternoons to support Mr Lovell.

Mr. Lovell explained that these sessions are a lot of fun and encourage pupils to use their imagination, requiring tactics, skills, and friendship.

In addition to these sessions, our weekday clubs include the very popular WAA and Wednesday after-school board game sessions run by Dr. Spring, as well as the ever-popular chess clubs held after school on Wednesday and Friday afternoons. It appears that both traditional board games and their modern counterparts are enjoying unprecedented popularity among our pupils.
