The first meeting for Ukrainian host families and Ukrainian guests took place last night at Truro Methodist Church.
Set up as a joint initiative between TMC and Truro School, the evening was an opportunity for host families and Ukrainians to meet and gather with others from the Cornish community who want to support them during this time of crisis.
Over 100 people, including representatives from Truro School, host families and refugees, gathered at Truro Methodist Church on the 27th April, 2022.
The evening began with talks from Ellie Richards, representing the Voluntary Sector Forum and Volunteer Cornwall Council, Rae Preston from Cornwall Refugee Resource Network (CRRN) and Diana Miners from Truro Community Refugee Support Group.
Revd Mark Dunn-Wilson then ran a Q&A session where host families, Ukrainian guests and prospective host families were able to share stories and thoughts.
Guests then enjoyed a light supper and a chance to chat informally.
The evening was incredibly moving at times as the community came together. It marks the start of a fantastic support network between the School and Church.
Truro School hopes to be able to provide space in the community for refugees and their host families to meet up, exercise, play and socialise in the coming months.
Truro School is part of the Methodist Independent Schools Trust (MIST)
