We recently hosted a dynamic and thought-provoking Inspiring Futures Day for our 3rd Year pupils, designed to help them explore their GCSE options and spark meaningful reflection about their academic and career pathways.
The day offered pupils a glimpse into new GCSE subjects while providing guidance for those still undecided about their choices. Workshops in Geology, Computer Science, and PE were hosted alongside a FutureSmart Workshop, an Options and UniFrog session, and a Looking Ahead Q&A.
Teaching staff shared insights into curriculum expectations, future career opportunities, routes of entry and possible course combinations. Pupils were encouraged to make thoughtful, informed decisions based on their strengths and interests, emphasising the importance of selecting subjects that inspire motivation and align with long-term goals.
Discussions also addressed common pitfalls, such as choosing subjects based on peer influence, which can negatively affect both grades and enthusiasm for learning. Pupils were reminded to consider their unique aptitudes and passions, keeping in mind that the evolving job market will likely include roles and industries that do not yet exist.
For those who are undecided, it was reminded that every door is currently open, and to think about what subjects make them happy and where they perform at their best. The introduction of UniFrog software further supported pupils in identifying potential career pathways through personalized assessments, offering valuable insights to inform their GCSE choices.
Extracurricular involvement was highlighted as a key factor in building a strong CV and developing transferable skills. For those choosing PE or being part of a sporting team, there are many characteristics required in sport that can be adaptable in business such as teamwork, people skills, leadership and confidence. Further education options such as A-Levels, Degrees, T-Levels, BTECs and Apprenticeships were all discussed as pathways.
Thank you to our Head of Careers, Mrs Kenward, for organising this engaging day. We hope it has inspired our 3rd Year pupils to begin thinking critically about their next steps, and we encourage ongoing discussions with teachers, tutors, house parents, and family members to refine their decisions further.
