Maths Team Secure Spot at UKMT National Finals

Truro School maths team reaches National Finals!

A huge congratulations to our 2nd and 3rd Year maths team who emerged victorious at the UK Mathematics Trust (UKMT) Team Challenge regional round, held at Penrice School. Their impressive performance has earned them a coveted place in the National Finals in London, where they will compete against the brightest young mathematicians from across the country.

The UKMT Team Maths Challenge is a prestigious competition designed to test pupils’ problem-solving abilities, teamwork, and mathematical dexterity. With four rounds – The Group, The Crossnumber, The Shuttle, and The Relay – the challenge pushes competitors to think critically and work collaboratively under time pressure.

Head of Maths, Mr Butterworth, was delighted by their outstanding achievement, saying, “This victory is a testament to the dedication and enthusiasm of our pupils, who have worked incredibly hard to hone their problem-solving skills. The competition is not just about numbers, it’s about strategy, communication, and perseverance. To see them excel in all these areas is truly inspiring. A special thank you goes to Mr. Nevill, whose leadership of our Maths Elite Performance Programme has been instrumental in this success. His dedication to running lunchtime sessions and providing invaluable guidance has helped our pupils develop the problem-solving skills and confidence needed to compete at this level. His support has been pivotal in preparing the team for the challenges ahead and he is looking forward to taking them to compete in London.”

We look forward to hearing how they get on at the national finals. Well done team maths!
