Maths Team’s Stunning Performance

Congratulations to our amazing Year 6 Maths Team who have placed a magnificent 2nd in the Quiz Club National Mathematics Final in Oxford.

Our team, consisting of George, Oliver, Ayden and Jensen were selected after qualifying with the four highest scores in the Area Heat Champions earlier this year. We were so proud of all of our Year 6 mathematicians, with the top ten girls and boys from the year group all achieving fantastic and extremely close scores in this heat.

With a long journey and some traffic nightmares thrown in, our fabulous four arrived in Oxford ready to take on the toughest of maths challenges, the Quiz Club National Mathematics Final. The event consists of three rounds of ten questions, with each round getting progressively more difficult.

We were extremely proud of our maths team; not only for their mathematical ability, but also for their ability to work collaboratively under pressure, their confidence and their strategic thinking.

With two rounds completed, our Truro Team were in 8th place overall and with questions in the final round worth 100 points each, there was everything to play for. After ten highly complex questions the results were in; our brilliant group of young mathematicians had placed 2nd overall!

It was a truly exceptional achievement for George, Oliver, Ayden and Jensen, our brilliant group of young mathematicians. We would like to thank Mr Goddard and our team’s parents for attending the event and for their support throughout the year with their children’s mathematics.

Our aim at Truro Prep School is for all of our pupils to foster a passion for maths from an early age. As well as providing appropriate challenge and an inspiring curriculum, we aim to build confidence and enjoyment for this brilliant subject, while also developing children’s mathematical fluency, mathematical reasoning and critical thinking skills. Our trip to Oxford was another example of this to round off another fantastic year in Maths at Truro Prep School.
